From Pain to a Chronic Health Issue- Jillian’s Story

On December 19, 2025, I was diagnosed with Cecal Volvulus with Midgut Malrotation at Arizona General Hospital – Mesa, AZ. My symptoms included severe abdominal pain and distention, an inability to pass gas, and constipation lasting three days. A CT scan confirmed the diagnosis, and within three hours, I underwent emergency surgery to correct the condition.

Unfortunately, complications arose, requiring further surgical intervention. On December 24, 2024, a second abdominal surgery was performed due to a small bowel obstruction, and a chest tube was placed to address a spontaneous pneumothorax in my right lung. Just days later, on December 29, a general surgeon performed a third procedure to place an additional chest tube. Due to the severity of my condition, I was transferred to a larger hospital in Chandler, AZ, where a thoracic surgeon performed a fourth surgery to fully correct the pneumothorax.

In total, I endured four major surgeries and a 15-day hospital stay. This experience was both physically and emotionally overwhelming, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and specialized care for conditions like Cecal Volvulus and spontaneous pneumothorax. I hope sharing my journey raises awareness about these serious medical emergencies and helps others recognize the symptoms before complications arise.
